Recipe
Classic Beef Stew with Bay Leaf

Ingredients:
1 lb beef stew meat, cut into chunks
2 tablespoons oil
1 large onion, chopped
2 carrots, sliced
2 potatoes, cubed
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups beef broth
1 cup red wine (optional)
2 bay leaves
1 teaspoon thyme
Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:
Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat.
Add beef and cook until browned on all sides.
Remove beef and set aside.
In the same pot, add onion and garlic, and sauté until softened.
Add carrots and potatoes, and cook for a few minutes.
Return the beef to the pot and add beef broth, red wine (if using), bay leaves, thyme, salt, and pepper.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
Remove bay leaves before serving.
Serve hot with crusty bread or over mashed potatoes.
